Usually, squirrels want nothing to do with you unless you have food. Even then, they’re more likely to run up and steal it than they are to hang out with you.

TikTokers are trying to change that. According to the people of TikTok, if you move your arm up and down in a wave-like fashion, squirrels will just come up to you and see what you’re doing.

The crazy thing? It seems to actually work, though no one is quite sure why. Theories range from it looking similar to the movements of other squirrels’ tails, to it being similar to the moves people make when they’re going to feed them, to it just being one of those random things that works for reasons we can’t explain.
