Clankers Need Not Apply: There’s a New Slur for the Robots (37 Pics)

Robots are taking over.

Elon Musk's Tesla showcase last week unveiled a new breed of robots who bartend, serve, and maybe even... give pleasure to humans. The internet is increasingly worried about this new group coming in and taking their jobs. So of course, there's a slur for them.

"Clanker" is a slur for robots, originally from Star Wars. It was actually coined by the poster boy for internet hate himself, Jar Jar Binks. He slung around the "C-word" during the Battle of Naboo, while reducing some filthy droids to spare parts. It’s been in use by the Star Wars community for years, both as a derogatory term, and one of empowerment for droids - and more accepting humans who prefer the term “organically challenged”.

Now with robots entering our own galaxy, clanker is hitting the mainstream. Keep in mind, even if you have robot friends, you probably shouldn’t say this word around them.
