And most of us don't have the divine protection that Homer Simpson has, we’re not all as lucky as America’s funniest and bravest hero. This is why real nuclear power plants and bomb builders, have over the years, developed different ways of handling plutonium while shielding themselves from its deadly radiation. 

But something happened in 1961, one lab decided to throw out the suits and thick gloves and developed a machine named MOBOT to carry out this laborious and deadly work. But MOBOT could do more than just handle plutonium, it could help you apply your makeup, or so its creators advertised, leading to some Hitchcock-inspired marketing photos.
